GOLDEN ACRYLICS HISTORICAL COLOURS Golden Historical Colours are "authentic recreations" of colours that have been used for hundreds of years and were considered essential to the palettes of past masters. Because of inconsistencies in the performance of these original pigments, artists expressed a widespread need for a safe, reliable paint that could accurately replicate the qualities and capabilities of the originals. Golden worked closely with art experts and museum curators to determine how these paints performed in classic paintings. Great care has been taken to match both the colours and working properties of the original pigments, while resolving the questionable production practices and improving performance standards.
Contemporary artists can now explore the profoundly distinct qualities of historically significant colours, enjoying the advantages brought about by modern chemistry: lightfastness, safe use and permanence.
Viridian Green was discovered in 1797 by Vauquelin, but wasn't developed into the modern colour until 1838. It immediately replaced a fugitive colour known as Emerald Green, but was called Emerald Green, Vert Emeraude, Celedon Green, Pannetier's Green, Guignet's Green and even Transparent Oxide of Chromium until it became widely known as Viridian.
